Anita Fortin may not strike people as a fantasy author. Even some of the people who know her would more likely associate her with the local waterski scene or just one of the many lady fans of NASCAR.

The truth, however, was that she had always been a passionate writer who has used her skill to keep her memory (and keep up her spirits). In fact, she had recently published a couple of romance novels in recent years and one of them has even garnered reviews.

The title of the book was “Magic Fairy Rose in Lowland of Scotland,” which follows the exploits of a Scottish Highlander named Thomas MacGregor.

BlueInk Review has given it praise for its “vivid picture of the rural locales, colloquial Gaelic dialects and clannish inhabitants of the period, integrating folk magic and religious elements throughout.”

The main plot of the story follows Thomas' bitter feud with a fearsome demon who slaughtered his brothers and stole away their bodies to deny them proper burial.

However, weaved in is also a romance between Thomas and Eleanor, the book's female lead. Much of the book's backdrop is also fleshed out by a wider mythos of Scottish folklore that could appeal to many fans of more classical fantasy. This includes a touch of the supernatural on its leading pair, which grants them abilities such as telepathy and the means to hunt down demons.

Overall, A.E. Fortin's book offers much to many readers still looking for a new, Scottish-style fairy tale story to add to their shelves. Interested readers can find “Magic Fairy Rose in Lowland of Scotland” available on Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and ReadersMagnet Bookstore.
